Department of Financial Services Presiding Officer Recruitment 2026 Eligibility
Educational Oualification: – The qualifications, eligibility, salary and other terms and conditions of the appointment of a candidate will be govemed by the provisions of the National Tribunals Commission and Qualification, Selection and Conditions of Service of Chairpersons and Members of Tribunals Rules, 2026.
• A person shall not be qualified for appointment as Presiding Officer of Debts Recovery Tribunal, unless he is, or has been, a District Judge or has been a member of the Indian Legal Service in Grade I or above.

• Where the person appointed as a Chairperson or a Member is a serving Judge of the Supreme Court or a High Court or a serving Member of any service of the Central Government or State Govemment or their undertaking , he shall either resign or obtain voluntary retirement from his parent service before joining the Tribunal.
• As per Section l7(2) of the Tribunal Reforms Act,2026, the Chairperson or Member of a Tribunal shall be eligible for consideration for reappointment.

As per Section 17 (1) (a) of the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2026, Presiding Officer of a DRT shall hold office for a term of five years or till he attains the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier.
Department of Financial Services Presiding Officer Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
The Search-Cum-Section Committee constituted under the Tribunal Reforms Act 2021 for recommending names for appointment to the said post shall scrutinise, or cause to be scrutinized, the applications with respect to suitability of application for the posts by giving due weightage to qualifrcation and experience of candidates and shortlist candidates for conducting personal interaction. The final selection will be done on the basis of overall evaluation of candidates done by the Committee based on the qualification, experience and personal interaction.

• Bio-data in the proforma at Annexure-I
• Certificate to be fumished by the employer/ head of offrce/ forwarding authority as in Annexure-Il (where ever applicable)
• Clear photocopies of the upto-date CR/APAR dossier of the officer containing CR/APARs of at least last five years i.e. from 2021-22 to 2025-26 duly attested by a Group A offrcer. In case ACR/APAR for a period more than 3 months is not recorded, then ACRs/APARs prior to five years for the matching period along with No Report Certificate (NRC) may be submitted (where ever applicable).
• Cadre clearance (In case of serving candidates)
• Integrity certificate/clearance from vigilance and disciplinary angle as in Annexure III (In case of serving candidates.)
• Statement giving details of major or minor penalties, if any, imposed on the officer during the last ten years.
